Downtown Manhattan

Downtown Manhattan- birthplace of New York City and the nation - is one of the most intriguing neighborhoods in the United States. Defined by open spaces, natural light, and vibrant financial and creative services, it is also New York's most accessible neighborhood, with 12 subway lines and 16 stations, 6 local and 24 express bus routes, multiple ferry routes and PATH train service.

In 2009, tourist visits to Downtown reached almost 6 million people. By 2012 the number is projected to double with the opening of the WTC Memorial. These visitors will discover not only the rising WTC, but also the Goldman Sachs world headquarters located only 2 blocks away on West Street. Other corporate neighbors include Merrill Lynch, American Express, Verizon, Cleary Gottlieb, and Deloitte & Touche.

Lower Manhattan also attracts visitors and residents to its museums, historic monuments, waterfront, and cultural events. 7 WTC offers access to The South Street Seaport, New York's historic waterfront, and the most green space south of 59th Street. Some major downtown cultural attractions include:

  • National Museum of the American Indian
  • The Statue of Liberty
  • Ellis Island Immigration Museum
  • Museum of Jewish Heritage
  • South Street Seaport Museum
  • Skyscraper Museum
  • St. Paul's Chapel

The rebuilt WTC will feature more than 500,000 square feet of retail space, joining an already impressive roster of nearby shops, including Whole Foods Market, Barnes and Noble, and Bed, Bath & Beyond and the World Financial Center with 300,000 square feet of retail space.

Downtown dining options include top-tier restaurants such as Nobu, Cipriani, Landmarc and Bouley. Residents, professionals, and visitors to Downtown Manhattan can also dine at Cosi Sandwich Bar, Shake Shack, Amish Market, and Ciao Bella Gelato
